New Paint

Well...I got some of my scooter back from the paint shop...the smaller peices were still drying but here she is. Some people love the color...some people hate it. I personally love it and most people start to really like it after looking at it for a bit. Now just imagine her with all new black rubber and lots of chrome.

Carb Pic

Ok, I promised a pic of my carb work. Nothing fancy but it proves I'm really working on my scooter.

Brakesgiving

My paint is taking longer than expected to get done, which sucks but it does give me more time to work on my other rides.

My main goal for the holiday is to replace my rear wheel cylinder on my 1969 VW Squareback...right now is leaking brake fluid which is bad times. After that I might do a brake job on the VW Golf so it stops squeaking. Good times.

Shopping Spree

Today was a good day. American Scooter Center was having a Customer Appreciation Sale aka Drunk Sales. So I was able to pick up some parts for a great deal.

So I picked up:
- P200 Rubber Kit
- Cables
- Cowl Rubber
- Glove Box Rubber
- Shocks

I still need the following:
- Floor Rails (they were out)
- Chrome Leg Shield Trim (forgot to ask)
- Tires (I'm gonna wait till the very end for these)
- New Emblems
- Spark Plug
- Spark Plug Wire
- And of course, tons of crap I don't even know I need yet.

Patience

Well, Austin decided to get cold. WTF, it's November its suppose to be hot out. This make my life easier since I drive a 1969 VW Squareback with no A/C, but it slows the speed that paint dries.

So what does this mean to world of Monkey Scoot? It means my P200E's paint job is running late. Hopefully, it'll be ready to go tomorrow, but we'll see. I'm all worried it won't look good...pins and needles man.

Paint

So I wanted to share...this is the color that I chose for my scoot. The color swatch that Glidden shows on their page that I'm having matched is a little less vibrant than the sample I gave Aus-Tex so we'll see. But this will give you an idea.

Killer Bees!

I actually spent a hour or so working on my scoot this weekend. I took apart the carb, cleaned her up. I reinstalled it and spent some more time working away all the grime from my engine.

It would of been a simple task but for some reason bees love Citra-Solv. I turned on a big fan and had it blowing over the engine as I worked and this kept the bees relatively at bay. It was kinda humorous at times when I'd pick up the fan and use it to blow the bees away. You could almost see looks of intense rage in their bee faces. Anyways. Pics of the carb work will be coming shortly.

Also, in a day or 2 I'll be going to Aus-Tex to take a look at my scooter's new paint job. My fingers are crossed that it will look good.

Weekend Carb Warrior

Ok, so another weekend is upon me. What does that mean? Scooter work.

This weekend if weather and wife permits, I'm planning to rebuild the 20/20 DelOrto Carb in my scoot. The airbox was sitting open in a shed for a while so she's built up alot of grime and dirt so its time for a good cleaning and some new gaskets. I picked up a carb rebuild kit, float and needle at ASC. Should be a fun project. Pics will hopefully follow.

Shopping List

The bad side to scooter restoration...buying new parts. So far this is what I think I need.

- P200 Rubber Kit
- Chrome Leg Shield Trim
- Floor Rails

- Cowl Rubber
- Glove Box Rubber
- Shocks
- Tires (whitewalls)
- New Emblems
- Spark Plug
- Spark Plug wire
- Tons of crap I don't even know I need yet

Before

So here is my baby. I got her all in parts from a really awesome neighbor and I'm starting the process of restoring her to "good" condition. I'm trying to be honest with myself...she's not going to be show quality, but she is going to be awesome to ride.

I've finish stripping all of the last parts from the frame and the remaining metal body parts. I used a chisel and hammer to whack off the rivets from the floor rails, thanks to the guys at ASC for helping on how to do that (http://www.americanascootercenter.com).

After that I took her over to Aus-Tex Sandblasting (512-243-0274) where they blasted off the paint and stickers. I took the frame back to ASC where they did some welds to clean up the frame and fill in some holes in the body that I wasn't going to need.

Right now the frame is back at Aus-Tex. They are going to be giving her a nice coat of red oxide primer, followed by some sanding and then paint. The color of choice was a "fresh lime" color. I'm hoping it'll be nice and bling.

Welcome

Well I've decided to try my hand at blogging. Mainly this will be used to update my progress in restoring my 1978 Vespa P200E, but I'm pretty sure I'll go off on little tangents. I hope anyone who visits enjoys my site and if you do or don't please comment.
